Mountainline Solar

With March-Westin as the design-build project’s general contractor, Mountain Line has installed a 30,000 square-foot solar panel array – the second largest in West Virginia – on the roof of its Westover maintenance and administrative facility. No other transit authority or municipality in the state has installed or currently operates a similar solar power plant. Completed in July, 2012, the solar panel array converts sunlight into sufficient power to meet the facility’s approximated annual electricity usage of 323,000 kilowatt hours. It also has generated a net positive electric surplus for the authority, allowing Mountain Line to feed surplus power back into the local energy grid through the use of net metering. Mountain Line’s innovative utilization of this source of clean, safe renewable and strategically sound energy production is truly unique.
